Jo-Ann Stores names new CEO

HUDSON, Ohio — Jo-Ann Stores has announced the promotion of Travis Smith to CEO effective immediately, replacing Darrell Webb. Webb will retain his position as chairman of the board for Jo-Ann Stores and become the interim CEO of Sports Authority. Jo-Ann and Sports Authority are both owned by Leonard Green & Partners, L.P.

“Travis’ promotion is the final step of a multi-year succession plan that has fully equipped him to continue the outstanding business results our company has achieved over the past five years,” said Webb. “I have thoroughly enjoyed working with the Jo-Ann team and look forward to continuing to serve as the chairman of the board.”

Smith has risen quickly through the Jo-Ann organization, culminating most recently with a promotion to president in February, 2010. Prior to that appointment, he served as chief operating officer, as well as executive vice president of merchandising and marketing. Smith joined the Jo-Ann team in July, 2006.

Prior to joining Jo-Ann, Smith was SVP general merchandise for Fred Meyer, a division of The Kroger Company. He holds a bachelor's degree in business marketing and communications from the University of Notre Dame.
